CERAMICS
"...where happiness was an option"
Bisque-fired ceramics, underglaze, graphite Dimensions variable 2015 This installation is a concluding chapter to my experience in LASALLE, a eulogy of sorts that marks the end. Of everything, as I know it to be. The medium of ceramics has always been fascinating because of its immortality and its prominence in everyday life. Its functionality and interaction with the user is what makes the medium more appealing to me because I believe that art is life, and life is art, and there need not be a distinction between the two. The ability of ceramics to permeate so seamlessly into everyday life is why I chose the medium. The idea of the vessel is another intriguing phenomena; where the vessel, the void, and its potential are invariably tied together, either one cannot exist without the other. Making use of the vessel as a metaphor for friendships, one can view the cups to be empty, or as having the potential to contain. But as the future is uncertain, the bisque-fired cups are unable to hold water, and only with the progression of time where more heat (or experiences, in the case of friendships) is applied, can the cups fulfil its purpose. |
